Kenapa Musang Obesitas Rentan Mati? | Drh. Fira Sovica

Musang obesitas sangat rentan mati!

Musang Obesitas Rentan Mati

  • Usahakan agar musang obesitas tetap sehat.

jadi gimana carax buat gk makan tuh ampas tahu lagi.

jaga kebersihan, terutama bagian ekor biar gak gimbang. sayangnya sih mas nggak ngasih tau saya umur musangnya berapa, hihihi. kalau udah lebih dari 5 bulan, mas bisa mandikan. silakan baca artikel saya cara memandikan musang....

Hello Fira,
I am Reshmi from India.i have musang pandan which was rescude..he is roughly 4 months old.i had some queries about his care.is it possible to convers in english. I am waiting for the rehabilitators to contact me back.

hi reshi. im sorry because reply too late... as vetenary, im too busy in few days... :)

you can use google translate to translate it into english.

you can feed its by small slices of bananas or papayas. you can handsfeed it to make it tamed. you can use cat cage to caged it.

more often of interaction (playing), more fast it get tamed.

reply this comments back. i like to heard further info about your civet... :)

Namaste Fira,
thankyou so much for reply.. sorry for late reply.. got tide up... i will try your suggestion. I have named him musang. Planning to reintroduce him to environment. He is 4 months now. I feed himm grapes, papaya, chicku, bannana, tendercoconut. Since in this part of the country (Kerala) people dont raise them as pets. Little is know about their eating habits and behavior. Now i am learning from him. His eating patterns are different as he doestnt stick to a particular food we have to change now and then. Well its in protected species here so i have to try for his release. Very active after 6pm to 6am.i dont restrict him in cage just a cartoon hung up high on window with a soft toy in it. He is very nippy and i carry marks of that on arms. I take him out side by night. He will be back after 2 hours.is there a mail id i can mail for future contact.
thanks again. Will update in btw. :)

so glad heard it again. :D
if you want to release it free, make sure that you trained it by feed it using natural feeding. usual food its consume in its habitat. i dont know about civet in Kerala, but in indonesia, civet is a pest: its preys fowl, birds, duck, fruits, insect. many civet's killed by farmers because its ruin their fruit crops and livestock.

since few years ago, civet is a popular pets in indonesia. you can watch the video about musang lover indonesia in youtube... :)

it is true that civet is endangered species in kerala? i mean, if its dont, you can keep it as pets. :)

Namaste,
happy to hear again...:)
The civet is considered as a pest here also due to the same reason mentioned in Indonesia .. they are also killed for meat and medicinal purpose..Civet is listed in protected species to be precise i guess. Its hard to get a mate for him as there are not pets here . i have seen my other pets suffer due to being intact.i dont want him to suffer that way. So prefer him being in the natural environment. A veterinarian will help in rehabilitating if an opportunity comes. The prb here is Drs dont come across such animals here normally ,only forest department can do such help. its hard to get them in contact. hoping for the best for him.
I try to follow a natural diet . But earlier he went on hunger strike when feed with the same fruits throughout the day . i included a 3rd option of fruit which keeps him fine. He is quite fine with it. I feed broken brown rice porridge with boneless fish in moderate quantity for evening first feed following with fruits which he eats when hungry. locust and grasshoppers are given as snack sometimes.

Is it ok to wipe him with apple cider vinegar ( 3 drops in 1ltr water) . he had an itching problem earlier i wiped once. itching reduced a bit. dont know if its cause of cider...
Also when do they become mature for reproduction ?. i have seen him mounting cloth bundles . i remove it when he is not watching . dont know if it is good for him to do that.

yes i have seen the video. but couldnt follow the language in most of them , it helped me a bit . would have been of great help if there where English subtitles .But happy for your response. Its a great relief to know some one who knows about it, speak English also.
Thankyou again. As of now these are the updates. Mail you next time.

hi...

the diet is good, i think. but keep to feed with fruit, atleast once in a week. :)

do you mean "when do they become mature for reproduction" is when they ready for mating? civet is ready for mating about 1,2 year for male, and up to 1,5 year for female.

it's have itching problem? maybe you can bath it with 'no sore' baby shampoo and warm water in morning when sun is bright but not too hot.

its can be rout when you bath it at the first time, so be carefull to handle it when you bath it. after you bath it, wipe the furr with clean and dry towel until the furr half-dry, then sunbathe the civet in morning sun about 5 or 10 minutes.

gimme' some another info... :)

Namaste ,
Sunshine is a bit low as we have rain at time
. Also its hard for to keep him awake during day time. He rarely gets up during the day for toilet.still if opportunity permits i will bath him. No sore shampoo is hard to get here. Is "episoothe " of virbac company good?.
as of now i only have this much of info. But will update as i get info.
Thankyou.

is no baby shampoo in kerala? lol, just kidding. but you can use baby shampoo, or cat shampoo. better if its no-sore shampoo. :)

just put your ex-wear tshirt, which still smells of sweat in upper of cage. let 'its smell your cloth. it can introduce your body smell to the civet....

the feces, it its good or liquid? if the color is just same color lika what its eat, its mean its healthy...

Namaste ,
Its seems episoothe can be used for cats also. He is healthy i guess based on the suggestion about feces.but rarely it is loose and he is normal in no time. :)
His biting is bit hard to cope. Rest he his fine.
Thankyou.

there's an anecdote in indonesian civet lover: "you not yet an civer owner if you dont have any bite scars or claw scars in your hand", "if you wanna be a civet owner but do not want have any wound in your hand (or any parts in your body), please adopt a goldfish and name it 'civet'" :D

so, we here have atleast one scar in our hand, it like a 'marking' in civet adopter. :)

but you can make it tame, just search artikel cara menjinakkan musang in "cari artikel" area, then translate it in google translate...

me and my team is working to make a blog in english, we'll launch it soon...

Namaste,
Yes the saying very true in every being. If you are not ready to take the respective nature of the being then better leave it. I too used to say that when we used to have 5 germen shepherd dogs as companion at a time at home. I used to take care of rescused palm squirrel babies from our property. Being said that since i dont keep him in cage, the bite comes unexpectedly when i be sleeping. Squirrels also do have play biting and scratching so kind of used to that. But what i have noticed is they dont come after and bite unlike civets.Feeding and cleaning is similar in such mamals with variations in duration. Also my parents are diabetic .so i have to think about that also. Well his first trial of realise will soon be tried. Mean while i am collecting. Information regarding his species. Its a add on to our knowledge data base.:). Thanks for the link.

Wishing good luck for both your team and you in starting a blog in english.

Namaste ,
he is fine i guess. Yesterday his feces had a dark green hue with a bit of mucous. It was not runny just semi solid. I didnt feed him any green stuff. He usually Goes out and eats small slug. But have seen him vomit it back. Dont know if he has eaten that. Yesterday. I gave him a half a boiled mackeral fish with rice porridge. Been giving him that earlier also, but never seem this green hue.he is active.
Some queries :
Kind of fish good for him.?
Is apple cider vinegar very diluted good. For wiping their body?
Thankyou. ::)

i think the best food for civet is fruit, like banana and papaya. and, its better to not feed its with slug.
hmm, about the mackeral fish: in indonesia, mackeral fish is a canned fish. not the fresh one. i dont know in kerala, but canned mackeral-fish is not good for civet. it's good if its fresh (not a canned), just boiled it in few minutes, then chopped into small pieces. :)

for wiping their body, just use wet-warm-clean towel. :)

its is still biting? :)

Namaste,
Bitting.... yes he does bit.:)

Namaste,
Back again after break. :)
Is it ok to give a handfull of red grapes to him everyday?
If he is got to stay with us when is his first deworming to be done? Also when is his first antiraibes vaccination to be given?
Thankyou.

hi,
its okay, but i think its better if you not feed with grapes everyday.
for deworming and vaccines, you can visit nearest vetenary for more info and schedule.

can you gimme some info about the feces? :)

Namaste ,
Sure will contact a vet. But since this not a usual animal for them i have wait for their response.they too might need to enquire with concerned vets.i would like when the vaccination and deworming schedule is followed in ur place as you are experienced in civets.
feces :
A bit dark and bit loose(not runny) when feeding mackeral and rice. So feed is give once in 2days, eve.
Bit dark and semi solid when feed with grapes.feed was once a day. Now i will change it. But like to know how often to include it? I used to give around 10 numbers.

Regular with papaya and banana. Feces white and orange mixed semisolid.
Drinks lot of water during night time and urinates accordingly.
Lately i saw him dragging his rear on bed.guess it about worm issue.
Hope this info is of use.
Thankyou looking forward ur replies on queries.

hmm, dragging? do you mean 'rub'? :)
maybe its a tick problem, not worm.

according to the color of feces, i think its in good health.

for protein supplemen, you can try feed it with chopped-boiled chicken meat...

do you smoking a ciggaret? if not, you can put your ex-wear tshirt inside the cage. let it know your body scent. :)

Namaste.,
good to hear he is fine.

I have tried earlier to feed him chicken.(boiled),but refused to eat.will fish compensate for protein requirements ?

I dont smoke. He doesnot allow to apply perfume also. He bits if not body odour.

Sorry i didnt get answer for queries :
1) vaccination and deworming done in Indonesia. I would like to know it.

2)how often to feed him red grapes.?

Thanks again.

boiled fish is good. :)
1. no, civet deworming and vaccination is not usual in indonesia. not of all civet lover do deworm and vaccine's their civet.
2. i think twice or three times in a week.

Namaste,
Ok will do accordingly

People not vaccinating and deworming came to a surprise as i have heard they too can carry rabies viruses and can get cannine distemper etc.
Still thanks again. :)

Namaste again,
hope all is good atyour side.
just dropped in to say that. Musang has started to eat small quantites of egg and chicken. But during those feeds his feces smells very strong thats only difference .
Thank you

oh hi. great to hear again from Musang. :D

yes, its normal. if we feed amount of proteins (like egg and chicken) to animal, its feses is more strong in smell. what about the color? it's white-pale, right?

sorry for late in reply. :D

Namaste,
hey no problem i know you be busy at work..but still finds time for answering, thanks for that.
About feces, yes mostly white is bannana intake is more . Also mixed colour of other fruits like papaya, chiku etc.a small amount of dark grey is found on the day we feed fish etc. I give mostly fish ...chicken and egg are given very small quantities.
thankyou.

based on color of the feces, its healthy. :)
la-nina is happen in indonesia now, weather suddenly changed. so, many, many animal got sick. what about in kerala?

if its same, keep your civet warm. and you can feed it 3 or 5 drop of honey for its stamina. :)

Namaste ,,
Here the climate is fairly moderate. Musang is fine. Except he now leaves home for longer hours.... intake of quantity of food give at home is a bit reduced. But he appears fairly healthy. Will wait for a day.

I hope that all animals and people be safe through the time...
Thankyou

oh, musang is starting for leaving home? its a good news. but, hmm, it's okay for you? i mean, do you feel sad if it ready to free again? :)

Namaste , most often he leaves for longer hours after his first feed in the evening....
its a mixed feeling but will be happy if he could be safe and finds his life adjusting to the natural needs...:) i go throu this with rescued birds, squirrels etc.. hopeing for the best. I would like to know how to restrain a civet when giving injections etc.. any video ? .if he stays for long, his first antirabies vaccination is due for next month. ( 6th month).
how are the people and animals doing there?
Thank you

hi,
our civet doesnt need to restrain when injection. almost all of our civet has bonded with the owner. they just put the civet in their shoulder or carried in in arms when injection.
for wild civet, vet's know how to restrain a civet when injection process. :)

the climate problem still happen here. a lot animal got sick, so i travelling around in almost all zoo in indonesian area's to handle it (i work for goverment's livestock and agriculture department)...

Namaste ,
Ok.. good luck and will pray for all.

Namaste ,
Ok.. good luck and will pray for all.

namaste ,
hope you are doing fine and all is good and back on track for the setback that happened resently. Musang is fine here ...except he is feed up of papaya i guess... :) still he eats his other regular meals... :)

oh, great! :D
what about the feces? normal? :)

atleast you feed one kind of fruit in a week. Any fruit, the sweet ones.... :)

namaste,
his feaces is medium solid ... colour is sometime as that of the humans when feed with rice and fish.. there will be bit of black or dark grey part to it... usually see it when he eats non veg ( insects like lizard , crickets etc).
recently he is most prone to fish and rice eating .i give him sometimes 3days straight, rice and fish if he reluctant to eat fruits... later he eats bananas at night.so i reduce the rice quantity for him to start of ... is it ok to feed rice porridge and fish on daily basis ? along with fruits?
thankyou...

its okay to feed him porridge and fish for daily, but feed him fruit atleast once in a week. :)

Namaste,
a bit of a concern about his eating. For the past 2 day he reduced his intake of food considerably . he used to eat 1/2 kg of small bananas in 2 days along with some papaya . yesterday he took only 3small pieces of banana and about 6 nos of red grapes.
drinks moderate amount of water. since i felt he is a bit tried i gave him some glucose mixed with water. water intake is a bit reduced also. he eats around a tablespoon of porridge only, even though it seems he wants to eat but could not... 4days before i had given him oats with fish instead of rice . he ate happyly.

his feces has considerably reduced and the colour is dark some what black with a bit of grey and small quantity of mucus.

i have stopped giving him egg white since the occurrence of this.he is moderately active at night and dosent leave home as he used to ...
dont know what the issue is...
thankyou.

i think you feed him good. if color of feces is just same of what he eat, its health. Maybe you can feed him with coconut water for drinks, atleast once in a week.... :)
sorry for late reply.

namaste,
very sorry too... well he was reducing food so much. in btw i think he had meet a local civet , as i found this local once feces in the first floor bedroom (where my musang hangsout) ,after which he was kind of having body pain and bit of a limping ..no superfical wound but found some blood in my room table... he then totally withdrawn himself ... took him to a vet later . they checked for wounds and fracture but none found . i told them about the blood they said in might be from anus... think he might have fallen while fighting from the other one... i guess the local one was matured and big as the feces was almost the size of human...any ways he is on some digestive correction medication and pain relief med .
this was about 5 days back.. now he started leaving home again ..but food intake is much less.. occasionally he drinks tender coconut water.. no fruit intake.. no fish intake... but today ate some egg white with a bit of yolk...hope he will get his appetite back. i dont think he gets enough food outside as when he comes back his stomach grumbles..like that of humans when hungry...

feces is black and small the size of small finger..
hope he be fine... thanks again...

namaste,
he is far better now... :)

hi! :D
sorry for late of reply? how's musang? :)

im in thailand right now for job. :)

hi namaste.... :)
musang is much better now. he started his short travels now.
i thought you where working in the government veterinary service in Indonesia..Thailand is a long distance form home country....

thankyou.

namaste,
hope you the job in Thailand is great... good luck to you :)
musang is fine ..stays mostly outside home in the attic above sitout.. but comes to eat in the eve and spends some time with me... i think he is getting used to the nature....
by the way will you be active with the blog sessions in btw job in Thailand?
thanks again ...

i still active blogging when in thailand. just back again in indonesia few days ago. :)

what about the feces? you just feed musang with fruit, right? have you try another feed, boiled chicken meat perhaps? :)

namaste,
musang is fine now...he is kind of reducing direct human contact now..still comes to eat in the eve..i give fruits regularly and every two day any one kind of protein ( egg white or boiled chicken meat). his quantity of intake is less than before...but he is active. feces is fine.
So how is the new job? is it private sector?

oh, its great to hear. :)
no, its a goverment's comparative study, a few days ago in thailand.

now im in office, sometims im out to checking around of zoo in Jakarta.

namaste...
ok.:)
recently i have noticed that every to 4 days interval musang applies some kind of smelly matter on both his sides of the stomach .its not a good odor ,but as it fades away he replies it .
his earlier experience of meeting another civet was not good i guess ..whenever he hears a jumping sound on the poly carbonate sheet on roof he comes inside and stays next to me...
i try to minimize handling as he can bring in some diseases . i enquired with vet here about the anitrabise vaccine and other vaccine .its seems the usual vaccine give for other animals for rabies is not proven success for civets so i have to be careful in handling Musang... :( is research in such area active...?
rest in next..

can you gimme more info about smelly matter? is it liquid or something? and how musang apply it?
i think its better to not meet musang to another civet. for healthy reason. i dont know about rabies and another animal disease in kerala. but in indonesia, rabies is a exist-but-unusual. are you afraid for rabies and another disease?
i think, dont worry about the disease if you keep musang's cleanliness and keep its diet. sorry for late reply. :)

namaste,
i understand the time you take out for answering the queries of the post so a unforeseen delay is understandable... :)The substance that musang applies i havent seen the matter as such... but on his body its brown in colour ...at times its kind of a popcorn smell.. sometimes its intense fermented fruity kinda smell i guess. i think he mixes the substance with the saliva and apply it on the side of his stomach ...between his front leg and back. occasionally he doses the same with the dress i wear cause of the sweat present in it ..i have seen him rub the cloth on his side with cloth in his mouth...

Kerala is a rabies pron area .. we are finding issues with rabied dog attacks now in kerala. My intention was to send him back to wild as i might not be available all the time to attend him and he can find a mate and avoid all the issues of being intact . So he stays in the attic out side main house area.Comes and goes as he pleases .. i have tried contacting some rehabilitator ..but response is less .. one said the way he is been kept now is a part of soft release and eventually he will leave... so hoping for the best like always..
thank you..

yeah, civet in indonesia smell like popcorn (or like screwpine/palm leaves), but civet in here not applied matter on their body. but i think, nothing to worried. i guess, civet in kerala is difference species. can you send me a picture of musang, please? just upload in postimage.org, then put the url in here....

if you worried about the rabies, maybe better to give vaccinne to musang. and kept the cleanliness. :)

namaste,
i guess the species here
is a bit more smaller.i dont have a photo of him applying the substance...recently i had a talk wild life rehabber in another state..He said usually its done to invite the attention of other species or to mask its on scent from male rivals and others.. I would really like to share some snaps of him ... is there any other medium to share like a Facebook account or mail id please?
thankyou

hmm, i have a facebook fanpage of this blog, facebook.com/caramemeliharahewan. i will send command to my crew to remind me if there's a pic from you... :)

Namaste,
Sure i will post in it ... its easy for me ... thanks very much....

namaste,
i have posted a message..

i haven't check it. maybe later.
how's kerala? i'll in there in next few days. maybe for one or 2 days.

Namaste...
great, well the climate is a bit cold.. winter season... bit of a rain due to a cyclone but hasn't hit Kerala bad like Chennai. So official visit? and where in Kerala?
by the way musang has not returned in 2 days..hoping its a good thing for him...

let me know if u need any help ... will do what i can that is possible... sorry since this is a public post i cannot communicate much ....
thankyou.

i think its good for him. maybe he's just find his community outside. other reason, maybe food stock is much in nature, so he not returning home...

i'll in zoo. Trivendrum or something? for a official visit from my office. its still uncertain, maybe me or my friend. :)

Namaste,
hoping so..:) well the zoo is in my district...if your staff can message me the details of your visit (your contact number that will be used while visit ... if possible) in Facebook ..will try to meet you.

thankyou.

okay.. i'll send my number soon in facebook... :)

namaste,
sorry for the long delay .hope your official visit went fine.
well musang has not returned back home...but i saw a glimpse of a civet near to where my musang used to hang out . guess its him.. i do keep some bananas occasionally . not much of an information to share about him... still will drop in once in a while....
thanks for all the help and happy year to you and your family. :)

oh, i was in there's in stric schedule few days ago, sorry for not inform you. its very, very short visit. i just visit the hotel, go to the zoo, back to hotel, then back to indonesia. fiuhhh.... :(

i hope can back theres in other times... great city.. :)

happy new year for all of you.. :)
